FOREBEARS Thomas Mayhew (1593–1682) came to Medford, MA, from Tisbury, Wiltshire, England, about 1632, and subsequently moved to Watertown, MA. In 1642 he established a settlement on Martha's Vineyard, with his son Thomas, who was the first English missionary to the Indians of New England.
