Ca

(female), in Scotland occasionally (male) Originally (from the 16th century onwards) a pet form of Dorothy; now also a pet form of Dora and Dolores. Since the 18th century, it has also been found as an independent given name (taken as being from the vocabulary word doll, which was in fact derived in the 17th century from the pet name for Dorothy). In Gaelic areas of Scotland it is found as a pet form of the boy's name Donald.
