Apparently of English origin, but of unexplained etymology.

Swedish (Vadén): probably an ornamental name from the place-name element vad- ‘ford’ + the adjectival suffix -én, from Latin -enius.

FOREBEARS The earliest recorded bearer of this name in North America is Henry Vaden (16631729), of Chesterfield Co., VA.
