Another source of the name is from an area named Ge during the Xia dynasty (2205–1766 BC) in present-day Henan province. The descendants of the rulers of Ge eventually adopted the place name as their surname.

Chinese 戈: from the ancient state of Ge that was granted to a descendant of the model emperor Yu (2205–2198 BC). Later descendants adopted the place name as their surname.
