Lynette

Meaning & History

Pratton

(female) In modern use a derivative of Lynn, formed with the French feminine diminutive suffix -ette. However, this is not the origin for the name as used in Tennyson's Idylls of the King (185985), through which it first came to public attention. There, it represents an altered form of some Celtic original; compare Welsh Eluned.

Variants: Lynnette, Lin(n)ette, Linnet.
