Hine

English (southwestern): occupational name for a servant, from Middle English hine ‘lad’, ‘servant’ (originally a collective term for a body of servants, from an Old English plural noun, hīwan ‘household’). Later in the Middle English period, the word acquired an excrescent -d (see Hind).
