Milliner

Scottish and English: unexplained; probably a variant of Milner. The vocabulary word milliner ‘seller of women's hats’ (originally meaning ‘native of Milan’, hence ‘maker of fancy goods’, hence ‘hat maker’) is first recorded in the 16th century, probably too late to have given rise to a surname.
