Me

(male), (female) Transferred use of the surname, in origin an occupational name for a tiler (an agent derivative of Old English tigele ‘tile’, from Latin tegula ‘covering’). John Tyler (17901862) was the tenth president of the United States. As a girl's name, it was in regular use in North America by the 1980s and soon after spread to other parts of the English-speaking world.
