Aeneas

(male) From Latin, the name of the hero of Virgil's Aeneid, a Trojan prince who sailed from Troy after its destruction by the Greeks and, after many adventures, settled in Latium (Italy), becoming the ancestor of the Roman people. The name is of unknown derivation; it appears in Homer as Aineas, and was associated by the Romans themselves with Greek ainein ‘to praise’. In Scotland this name was sometimes used as a classicized form of Angus.
