Falk

(male) Jewish: from Yiddish falk ‘falcon’ (compare modern German Falke). It is sometimes taken as a translation of the Hebrew given name Yehoshua (see Joshua). The association of various animals with the main Hebrew personal names is traditional in Jewish culture, and is usually to be explained on the basis of some biblical reference. The connection in this case, however, is unclear; it has been suggested that Joshua circled the Land of Canaan like a bird of prey before swooping down on it triumphantly.
