Chinese 冯: from the name of the city of Feng in the state of Wei during the Zhou dynasty (1122221 BC). The fifteenth son of the virtuous duke Wen Wang, Bi Gonggao, was granted the state of Wei soon after the founding of the Zhou dynasty in 1122 BC. A descendant of Bi Gonggao, Bi Wan, was granted Feng city, and his descendants took the city name as their surname.

Chinese feng.2封: from the name of a territory in what is now Henan province. A descendant of the second legendary emperor, Shen Nong (27342697 BC), was a tutor of the third legendary emperor, Huang Di (26972595 BC). In honor of this service he was granted an area called Feng, and his descendants adopted the place name as their surname.
