Italian: according to Caracausi, from a metathesized variant of camarruni ‘spurge’ (sp. Euphorbia), but perhaps also a metathesized form of Cammaro, an occupational name, found exclusively in Sicily, from Arabic ḥammār ‘muleteer’ or khammār ‘wine merchant’.
