FOREBEARS A bearer of the surname from the Poitou region of France was documented in Quebec City in 1666. In LA, the Thibodeaux trace their descent from Acadians from the Poitou, France, who settled in Acadia in the late 17th century. After the British expelled the French from that province in 1755, many resettled in LA.
